Chess set photographed using natural daylight from the left hand direction.

The picture of the board and pieces was created by focus stacking 5 separate shots, each with a different focal length - starting with one focused on the left hand foreground, and finishing with the White King in the background.

The background (sky) was added post capture, as was the vignette using Photoshop Elements 9. The same software was used to convert the picture to black and white and add a coloured hue.

Hi Robert

Good photo stacking. Something I've not tried. Good low point of view and the white king adds good depth to the image. I wonder though, whether you could have made the background more dramatic somehow.
