Bolivian car crash
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|We were on a 4x4 trip through the Altiplano and heading for the Uyuni salar... On a frozen morning, the driver took the wrong path - was he too selfconfident? not enough concentrated? focused on some other problems we had (the car had been already repaired twice)? no clue, yet he took the wrong path. Suddenly there wasn't any ground under the wheels - 90 kms per hour, almost top speed for these kind of cars. We just had time to hang on hard before crashing down at the foot of these little hill on the top of wich the road we were following had just vanished! Fortunately, no harm was to be declared and save the car which had had a hard time, we were safe. One might notice on the foreground the luggage and bags that were on the car's roof - and had been ejected by the shock - and on the hill's side, the deep wheels' mark were we had landed after a brief flight! |
In these moments, you DO feel your alive. For the fun let me tell you that the eggs under the passenger seat were perfectly clean... Life's amazing.
Check there and look for the "photos" section for more images.
Any comment welcome !

Very nice image, with the small car inside a bic landscape, under a great sky. The moments make travels a nice experience.
the story, the photo... everything talks to me... the landscape is unbelievable and just gorgeous... the colors are... flawless... just flawless.. thank you !
Nice story, Dams, glad to read that you were all alright. Anyway, these cars are supposed to be "offroad", aren't they ?
I particularly like the deep blue sky, it's something we haven't seen in Flanders for quite a while... As for the picture, I think the jeep doesn't stand out enough. I've posted a workshop.
It's a wonderful picture and an amazing story! It remained me my own journey to Bolivia in 2004 (yet to be published in pictures) and that I have to write a story too, thank you!
hahahha Bolivians do not drive so well I was there last year with my ex and had lots of fun, but, actually one of the best parts was looking after every curve there was a crased car down the hill, after all if no one was harmed I am sure you had an excelent time.
