Hello my fellow TL-members,

we are visiting lovely New Zealand in january 2007 and we would be very happy to get some infos about where to go and what to see.
It would be great to make a trans-continental TL-membersmeeting in New Zealand.

Well since you are coming in the summer i would reccommend going to the north of North Island.
Top 5 places to photograph north of Whangarei would be
1. Karikari Peninsula-Untouched white sand beaches, NO people and simply shines in the summer.
2. Waipoura Forest-Magnificent Jurrasic forest, winding roads with very old trees that almost jump out at you
3. Te Paki sand dunes-Huge sand dunes with a wild west coast sea churning massive waves on a windy day. On a calm day which it usually is in the Summer is fun to boogie board down the dunes.
4. Matapouri bay/ Whale bay- Two of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand. Whale bay has native bush coming right down to the beach and all you will see is nature all around. It is seperated by a short bush walk from the road. Matapouri is my favourite, you can walk along this beautiful bay like beach then walk through the hole in the rock right around to the "Mermaid pools'(ask a local) which is a natural swimming pool in the rocks.
5. Whangarei Heads- No tourists go here because they are too busy heading north to the Bay of Islands. Many beautiful bays, Mt Manaia (which you can climb, although not the easiest climb, if you are young and generally fit, the view from on top will amaze you. Then head on to Oceans Beach which is just so beutiful.

i have lived here half of my life and these places are untouched by heavy tourist traffic. You will want to thank me after i feel. Have fun and enjoy.

P.S yes Bay of Islands is beautiful too. Russell is a lovely place.

Are you coming to have a holiday, take photographs, or both?

What sort of things do you like photographing? Landscapes? Mountains? There's a ton of photos from NZ on TrekLens and also Trek Earth. You can get a good idea of which places to visit from the photos.

Have fun (:

Hello Adam,

we are coming to have a holiday, but we enjoy taking pictures too.
Last february we stayed 5 weeks in New Zealand and made more than 4.000 photos. To get an impression, please have a look at my TL-account.
This time we like to go to the mountains and glaciers. :-)

Take care,
Sabrina

If it's mountains and glaciers you want... then plan on visiting the South Island.

Might I suggest Fiordland - you could walk the Milford Track

You might also want to check out Queenstown - if you're feeling rich you could spend a couple of nights at the Matakauri Lodge.

Enjoy your trip (-:
