I will soon be off on a vacation to the East coast of Scotland, Southern England,& then in May on a Baltic cruise, with port calls at St.Petersburg, Russia & Tallin, Estonia.Would be appreciative of any tips from TL members familiar with good photographic sites, restuarants & watering holes,or information that would assist in us enjoying the Baltic area even more than we think we will:-)

Cheers

Hi Ron - I can't offer suggestions for the Baltics, but Edinburgh is a top notch photo op. Plenty of beautiful countryside in southern England too, especially Spring into Summer - along the 'South Downs' is always nice and there are many little villages waiting to be snapped! For little thatched cottages try Hampshire!

You could of course just browse these places in TL and TE (I do that before travelling) to get an idea of viewpoints and subjects.

Not sure where you are going in Southern England ... but if you are down Dorset and Devon way here are some ideas ...

1: Corfe Castle between Wareham and Swanage in Dorset, great at dawn, especially on a cold misty morning, West Hill overlooking the castle is a good place to start.

2: Kimmeridge Bay ... one of those locations which draws photographers from all over the country to a good low tide in the evening. Situated between Corfe Xastle and Lulworth Cove. All along the coast there is amazing, but only open at certain times as it's a live firing gunnery range!

3: Portland Island near Weymouth along with Chesil Beach ... great for rocks, light house and some orchids!

4: New Forest ... one of those places that needs a little local knowledge to make the most of although Bratley View is a good place to start.

5: Hive Beach, near Bridport in Dorset ... beautiful sand stone cliffs and rock ledges at low tide, park at the cafe and walk to the right.

6: Dartmoor ... amazing place that is so under rated ... so much to see there, especially round sun set, rocks, rivers, moor, farmland ...

Yep ... quite a bit down this way!

:)

Hi Miles,
Sorry for the delay in answering your helpful suggestions as per good locations for images.
I had just checked out this page after returning from my vacation & noticed your reply, which unfortunately was received after I had left on my trip.Still I did visit Corfe Castle, though not at the time of day I would have liked, or you had suggested,so I did not get the mood I wanted.I feel bad that I have just now discovered your suggestions,& apologize If you felt I was rude in not answering you when you sent it.
Regards
Ron
