TL we are again in Zierikzee

A town on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland in the Dutch province of Zeeland (1947 pop. 6,964, with 13 Mennonites; 2001 pop. 10,313), was formerly the seat of a Mennonite congregation (something I did not know )

The early history of the Mennonites begins with the Anabaptists in the German and Dutch-speaking parts of central Europe.

Due to all sorts of circumstances , Mennonites started to immigrate several hundreds of years ago to the US.

Than, somehow from the Mennonites a separation group of Mennonites formed a new group: The Amish, .

They have basics in common .. like living plain ..no TV..Cars..alcohol and they strongly respect the Lord

For myself I have seen the movie years ago: Witness !
About an Amish community.
Starring Kelly Mac Gillis and Harrison Ford

That movie had a great impact on me ..showing a total new world I did not know off.

A movie I still can recommend , also.. I was surprised the sort of old German they spoke among
them selves, I could clearly understand.

But back to Zierikzee Folks
My advice .. ad this Town in your 'to do list while in Holland ' under Dordrect and Delft .. and moore..
(*_*)

Thanks and have a good weekend Folks
Rgds;

John T

Lovley John. I love history of any kind and I am learning such interesting historical things, here on TL. I did not know any of the information in your notes, as to origins. I like the crop you have used with the beautiful arch perfect to view the work inside. Ok added to my wish list. Thanks for this wonderful glimpse.
Warm Regards
Wanda

An interesting pov good details and a great note. TFS

Bonjour Mr J. ;OD
Beautiful strengthened entry slightly shifted which makes it possible to foresee the interior of the city.
You chose a very good angle of POV. The colors and the light are very natural.
Cheer also for your note, I know the movie but not the history of the beginners of the Amish community, thank you.
Amitiés mon cher John

Hi John, great picture and very interesting note about Mennonites. This is a place I'd like to visit some day.
Not only did a lot of Mennonites immigrate to the U.S., but also many many to Canada. I am the product of two Mennonite parents both of whom immigrated to Canada with thier families in the 1920's - they came from what is now Ukraine. Both were very young at the time but have strong recollections of the journey.

Hallo John,
Yesss...!!!
Adri

hi john, neat shot! looks very medieval, like an entrance to a castle, wonderful post,

Beautiful capture.
Love the composition here.
The sidewalk line leading to the door makes you eyes move there all the time.
Love this
Piet.

Hello John,
After looking at this shot, and few shots from Dordecht and Leiden...I feel like I missed to see a lot when I was there.
Beautiful little towns with so much history and architecture.
Very nice POV and tight crop. TFS

Beautiful archtectural image.

Heel erg mooi John en fijn dat we weer wat erbij hebben geleerd.
Dat oude duits viel mij ook op in die film.

Lovely image of this old entrance to the town!

Hi John
Real nice capure here. I dont know how you got the time for it, walking around doing photos. My dear friend, my dear mentor - you dont have the time for it, you have to work, it simple can be right that you lovely wife have to do all the work while you are taking photos.
Have I made my self clear????
Good job my friend, real good motive, excellent light, well composed, you have once again done very well.
By the way, The Jewell will arive in Copenhagen the 19. of May, I will be on board tjekking the documents, the pasport to make sure that everything are oK.
I will give them regards from mr. Tulip.
The very best greetings from
Your friend in Denmark

Hi John
I add to John's recommendation on the Harrison Ford movie. Amish communities dot the Midwestern United States and are well worth the visit.
Well composed image - like the texture of the brick and the pilons leading the eye to the arch.

Hi John,

I added this town in my list for next visit in Holland, this image convinced me. :-)
Very good composition, POV and clarity in your photo, also the colors are great. TFS

Greetings from Bodensee,

A very interesting picture John. The detail is excellent and I like the colour contrast between the old stone walls of the entrance and the newer paving stones, frame left. A very interesting note as well. I too enjoyed 'Witness', a top film I reckon, with excellent performances from Kelly MacGillis and Harrison Ford.
Thanks, and good Luck!

Hi Yiannis

Excellent architecture in this great picture. Light and POV are amazing. Very useful your notes for Mennonites as well. Sure , I have many places to visit the second time I will come in Netherlands.
regards
John

A good POV John, perhaps a wee bit more of a crop to get rid of that corner top left. Good colour and lovely texture in the stonework. A run through normal 'sharpen' in PSP would bring out the textures even more. TFS,
David

Hi John
Nice clear colors and light in this one. I guess that the framing is very Dutch :-) (Hans S. has one almost like this one).

Hi John! Speaking of old german: we have a quite large population of Hutterites around us - similar in their doctrines and language. I too get a kick out of listening to them, since I understand most of the old low german they speak.
Now to the picture: it's intriguing to figure out what is around the bend. I surmise maybe helpers to keep innocent bystanders from walking into your shot? Just kidding.
Cheers
Otto

Hola John.
Estupenda perspectiva que deja a la vista la entrada a esta ciudad de apariencia tan antigua.
Saludos, JL.
