This is a monarch butterfly taken from the Butterfly Garden of Brookside Garden in Wheaton, Maryland. The monarch butterfly is sometimes called the "milkweed butterfly" because its larvae eat the plant. Milkweed is the only thing the larvae can eat. Most predators have learned that the monarch butterfly makes a poisonous snack. The toxins from the monarch's milkweed diet have given the butterfly this defense. In either the caterpillar or butterfly stage, the monarch needs no camouflage because it takes in toxins from the milkweed and is poisonous to predators. Many animals advertise their poisonous nature with bright colors... just like the monarch! Monarch butterflies in the Eastern U.S. overwinter in Florida, along the coast of Texas, and in Mexico, and return to the north in spring. Monarch butterflies follow the same migration patterns every year. (Wikipedia)

I used my trusty Nikon Macro lens (60 mm). And I was about one foot from the subject(s). Processing included tone balancing using Photomatix followed by adjustment of exposure and contrast in Photoshop.

Wishing you well.

Hi Danilo,

Very sharp and well-composed. The colors are gorgeous and the background bokeh provides excellent separation. This looks almost like a painting, mother nature's.

Hope you are well.

Greetings Danilo,
This is a very vibrant image, due to your tight crop, the variety of the colours of both the flower & the butterfly ,pop right out.I'm nor sure if it is due to the Tone mapping technique or not,but there definately is a painterly feel to your image, more with the Monarch than the flower,& I really enjoy this effect you have captured.Three thumbs up from me.
TFS
Best Regards
Ron

Hi Danilo!
Marvellous colorful image.
Excellent details and great contrast against the blurred BG. I like the texture: it seems a painting on glass :)
Very well composed.
Congratulatins my friend.

Andro

wow, superb work !!!

Hi Danilo:
I love the colorful details in this campture and good enough for a magazine and great notes to go eith!!!
David

Hi Danilo, how are you?
This is very impressive ... The flower and butterfly are so well isolated from the soft background. Maybe the contrast is a little too high for my taste ... but of course that's just my opinion :) Colors and light are great.
well done
Trudy

The Monarch has a wonderful means of protection, Danilo. Who'd believe this beauty is so full of toxins!!
You've got a fine, detailed shot with your micro lens, showing the beautiful pattern on the wings and the chicken-pox type spots on the body. (Perhaps that is the warning!!)
I like the close crop, with the flower and the butterfly occupying most of frame, and set against a good oof, b/g.

My warmest regards,
Bev :-)

dear Danilo,
wow,
those colors are fantastic,
especially the black framed wings look illusionary like mystic stained glasses in the church,
and pink flower petals show us mysterious charm so much,
blurred back are making attractive stage for the couple,
thank you for your beautiful shot,
Akihisa

Hi Danilo..nice shot...great range of colors you captured here...nice blur to the background which brings out the subject nicely.

Ciao Danilo

The pattern and colours are well reproduced!
The level point of view works well, DoF spot on isolates the butterfly nicely in the setting...
A balanced framing with good feeling of depth!

Greetings,

Sergio

Hi Danilo,
two great macro..Zinnia and butterfly.Perfect clarity and light.I liked colours so much.Perfecr work from you as always..TFS.Necla.

Hi,Danilo. A well timed and sharp photo with a diagonal composition of the flowers. The details in the butterfly are superb and the contrasting Zinnia flowers add to the contrast. great DOF to isolate the subject. Congratulations friend.
