This shot was taken last year, but the view today was virtually the same, as we were "surprised" in our area by snow. Temperatures were just above freezing, so the heavy wet flakes stuck to everything, turning the trees to lace. The kids were able to get a few sledding trips down the hill before getting soaked. I like the lines of this house, and may yet use this shot for a future Christmas greeting. Anybody remember making cards in school on dark construction paper, then taking a toothbrush dipped in white shoepolish and scraping it over a screen (splattering the white polish everywhere) to give the effect of snow on the card? The flakes on the dark brick reminded me of that.

PP Work--increased midtones this time(+20); bumped the contrast only a bit (10); no saturation.

Hi Karen,
A superb winter image, great capture and perfect capture of the falling snow. This is what I remember from my youth when it snowed. Thanks for bringing back good memories!
Hans

Superb Karen and your PP work has enhanced the beauty of the snow. I have never lived in a place which has snow but have visited areas where it does fall in Australia. Nicely composed and lovely soft detail. TFS,
David

Hello Karen,
Even this house, as pleasant as it appears could not warm this image. The flakes bring chills down my back, but yet today, here, we have had tiny flakes fall from the skies that seem to disappear as soon as they near a foot or two off of the ground.
No to your answer, the trick with white shoe polish, never heard if that trick, an interesting idea.
A good winter scene...

Hi Karen, This does have a very nice look about it...as you mentioned the snow against the brick looks nice and there are some beautiful lines in this. Detail captured is great. At first I didn't much care for the slight cyan tint over it all and done a quick workshop...then decided against posting it because the more I looked at this the more I started to like it and thought it was probably close to natural to what you was seeing. Nice shooting Karen!

Hello Karen,
You capture the winter atmosphere well, low light and muted colours!
The image is well composed, and the scenery looks about like outside here today as we woke up to 10-15 cm of fresh snow this morning!
Greetings,
