Valley of the River Dove

Wolfscote Dale, Derbyshire, looking southward.

Southwest of the village of Hartington and northwest of the better known Derbyshire gem of Dovedale, Wolfscote Dale has a quiet, peaceful charm all of its own.

Ray and I had our lunch at this viewpoint and then continued on our way southwards along the valley bottom.

Adjustments to the gamma and the saturation, sharpened slightly.
I am not very happy with the sky, a problem I often experience in similar conditions with my present camera. Can anyone offer advice and/or a solution?

Splendid scenery. How from tale. Pretty juicy colours and excellent sharpness. I congratulate and greet. Wiesiek

Hi Bill
Superb shot, fanrastic colours and composition

Wonderfull image Bil,
great colours, bravo, fantastic shoot!!!

Hi Bill,
Very impressive shot. Th green colour is absolute perfect.
I think the camera has problems with the contrasts with the sky and (dark) foreground but maybe you can get the answers for that problem on a forum?

hello Bill,
That`s an amazing photo. Very interesting for me. Especially I like the colours.

We are waiting for elfs... finally! :-)
Greens are perfect and the whole pic gives actually a deep feeling of peace.
Congratulations and TFS.
Ciao, Antonella

Hi Bill;
beautifull green colours;
lovely nature, great POV
very very good capture
bravo for your shot

Love the sceneic shot Bill, reminds me of the shires in Lord of the Rings.

Beautiful composition with the winding path leading the eye into the shot.

Beautiful landscape shot, although I agree that the sky isn't great. The problem with the sky seems to be that the exposure is perfect for the land but it's overexposed the whites in the sky - a simple solution might be to buy an ND graduated filter for your camera, which would help balance the exposure in shots like this.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Bill
A fascinating composition in which subject compete for attention!

hello Bill,

beautiful capture of this magnificient valley.. great green showing here with the lovely path and river on the right.. love your shot again.. very soothing to my eyes..

well composed with fine detail.. your sky is not that bad.. i still can see the slight blue.

regards, terry

Spectacular view and shot, Bill! Spring is certainly upon us. I think something like this this week is doable right around my own street area though we don't have a stream nearby. There is one not far away and could fit in well with Helen's theme. TFS

Beautiful Landscape. Colors and light are superb.

another beautiful lanscape capture from you.
Well composed, sharp and colorful.

Good one Bill

Wonderfull shot of one of the many many great places that have inspired poets and writers
Bill; do yoy have by chance any of the Cotswalds??
Friendly tap on the shoulder for a fine shot here

Hello Bill,
Beautiful valley.
Lovely green colors.
Very nice pov. TFS

Hi Bill,
Great V-shaped lines, great how this lush green valley is cptured. Really a place to be. An outstanding posting my friend!

Hi Bill, a beautiful image containing good colour and light. Nice diagonals formed by the hillsides and some lovely curves. I have the same problem with skies on some days. I have worked it out that if I try and compose the image with a little less sky it does make some difference. TFS,

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Tamar Tides VI’

Hello Bill,

An impressive view! I like very much this photo in fresh green, excellent composed and presented. Also an interesting POV you chose. TFS

Hello Bill,
Another great shot! You spotted the strength of the river, and the path, and knew just how to use them. And that colour comes from some heavenly palette! Best bit for me is that 'smudge' of the trees on the distant hill.
Smashing detail. Well done, Bill!

hello Bill

I find that this is a lovely landscape
the road lead the view into the pciture in a lovely way , and gives the real dimension of the frame

Nice picture, I like the composition, the colors and the general feel to the image.

The problem with the sky, it is overexposed and washed out a little. This would happen with any camera and it happens because the sky is much brighter than the land. This can be solved in a couple of ways but it requires some work or extra gear:

1. With a polarizer filter you can darken the sky a little and bring out more of the blue.

2. With a gradient neutral density filter it darkens only one part of the image, so by you can darken the sky relative to the land. (This is one I am looking to buy myself and I think will work best here)

3. You can also underexpose a little bit , making the land dark and then brighten up the land in PP.

4. You can take multiple exposures on a tripod and then combine these in PP, either with HDR or by just joining layers.

5. You can do some PP with the image you got, which is what I did in the workshop.

6. Oh I almost forgot professional solution that gives the best results: Wait for better light.

Hello Bill,
You succeeded super photo. Good light and colors. Panorama arranges very good with that.
Best regards.

Hello Bill,

This is an interesting landscape, the small stream winding its way through the wonderfully green countryside!
A pleasant composition with fine details, the point of view is effective in displaying the place to the viewers...

Pablo -

My friend from Scotland always uses that ferry to Haugesund when he comes to visit, latest this July! He will for sure have problems in the furure if the connection is closed permanently...

Hi Bill,
Well what more can I say that has already been said.....fantastic.
