A sign warning of the usual presence of 'Gemsbok ' a large antelope found here in the Namib Desert of Namibia. This particular sign was up by the side of the long , lonely but tarred road to Luderitz located on the coast of the Atlantic ocean .This small town ,off the normal tourist circuit, is some 300 kms away from Keetmanshoop on the main south-north highway running the middle of the country , it's the nearest town to the east .Although lonely it is a fantastic road to travel on ,the views are sublime , of course it is a little hazardous , the antelopes on the road being a hazard ,( we did see a few along the way but not anywhere near the road ) however the chances of getting stranded by or stuck deep in a sand bank are real here in this environment as sometimes drivers are not able to reach the coastal town because a particular stretch of highway is often clogged by sand obviously it can get a real nuisance to traffic , well a team of workers with heavy equipment is called in to clear the way . Even when it is blowing the sand drifting across the road is strong enough to litterally sand blast the paint right off your car in a matter of minutes , that proves to be another serious hazard to driving a new or freshly painted car into this area !
Thanks for looking ,
A scanned picture from a trip to Namibia in 1998 , removed noise , contrast added ,sharpened and framed ,

Hi Carol,
One interesting image.
Interesting concept of achievement.
Have a pleasant day,
Adrian

Great one Carol ... love the simplicity of this shot. It looks SO bleak and SO desolate there.
Love the black road leading in from the bottom corner, and the sign is a perfect focal point of the shot. Love the gradient of color in the sky too .. the way it goes from deep blue at the top, and fades out as it goes down to the sand whipped horizon. I can't even imagine that kind of sand in the air .. crazy!!
Great job on this one my friend.

Hi Carol,
Very interesting image. my only problem is that the road sign is too big and distracts from the awesome scene behind it.

I like the simple, strong composition and the rich saturation from this shot. For a scan especially it has good tones and dynamics.

Hi, Carol -
Great eye to see and capture this unusual sign against the striking desert background. You POV gives us the impression of the black road disappearing uninterrupted into the endless desert. Well-composed with the sign on the far left so that the background remains the star of the image.

Hi Carol
The scan was really good here. I love the perspective. The road disappearing into that white hot desert and the sign on the left that draws our attention.

Extremely interestin road picture Carol, the hazy sky and the lonely hills are superbe .
The sighnboards is funny but a bit to massive,a few steps back would be better to create even more space in the scene.

Bonjour Carol

Cette route est impressionante ! On se demande vers où elle peut bien aller.
Le panneau au premier plan est très bien pensé.
Du graphisme à l'état pur.
Superbe profondeur de champ.
C'est simple et efficace. ça me parle.
Toujours agréable de visiter ta galerie Carol.
Amicalement
