Common Goldeneye at Inglewood
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|I took this photo at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in Calgary, Alberta. The bird is a male Common Goldeneye duck. He had just landed in the water and caused the gold reflections in the water, due to the early evening sun, to break up around him. I was quite close to where he landed, so I managed to capture the details of his plumage not too badly. The colouring of this duck depends a lot on the light. The head can appear to be black, purple or dark green. In this case, it seems to be mostly black with a little dark purple. His golden eye is quite distinctive. In PP, I used CS4 to do colour balancing, contrast, gamma correction and exposure adjustments, as well as noise reduction and a little sharpening.|

Wonderful little duck!
Lovely details and colors.
Wow, the Goldeneye is a striking little duck, and I can see why they call him Goldeneye. I like your close view which shows off his plumage and unique markings so well. He's a real beauty.
